Back in October 2004, we started to hear about SED, this is the company that Canon and Toshiba established. SED, which stands for Surface-conduction Electron emitter Display uses HD technology and comes in LCD form, but with the kind of picture quality that we were used to with CRT TV screens.
SED TV’s were supposed to hit the market way back in 2005, then it was moved back to 2006, then again in 2007, and still there is no solid release date. The problem is that Canon Inc. will not be able to supply the screens, so it seems that we will not be seeing the SED TV any time soon.
The problem now is that while SED TV’s were supposed to give a better quality LCD TV way back in 2005, as we all know LCD TV’s did not have great picture quality and with Plasma’s they had a high burn rate. Now a few years have passed and there have been many advances in TV technology, so the question is “Do we need SED TV’s”?
