Seems as if Samsung could be facing the prospect of recalling a number of models form their plasma TV range, as the company have been inundated with complaints from angry customers who claim that their plasmas have just stopped working.

The TV’s which are only in Korea are models, SPD-42S5HD, SPD-42S5HDM, SPD-42P5HD, and SPD-42P5HDM, the problem seems to be a terminal fault which turns the screen black after just one year.

Consumer group, Consumer Korea have now asked that Samsung Electronics recall this plasma TVs, as this is not down to the customer to put right. Samsung are still refusing to recall the models, but at the moment are willing to offer free repairs to the owners.

We own a Samsung HPS5053 and were out at the fireworks this year. When we returned, the plasma was making crackling-type noises from the other room. When we went to check, the tv was off, making noises, and the plasma had cracks in the screen…the screen was black. We just unplugged it. Did anyone else have this kind of problem?

I own a Samsung HPS5053 that when I turn it on it fades to black then shuts down. I had this plasma for only 11 months; I am waiting to get it fixed now.

I have a Samsung 42″ plasma, it is 6 mo, 20 days old and the picture went to black. I still have the sound. But then today I turned it on a second time and it started smoking, that can’t be good.
I bought the service contract.

I too have a Samsung 42″ plasma tv. It’s less than 3 yrs old and now after few hours of viewing losses bottom half of the picture or the whole screen goes black with sound intact. This is happening on a daily basis.

We own a Samsung 50′ plasma tv and it also makes crackling-type noises when the tv is off. The new problem is the on switch is sticking and it clicks about 10 times trying to get some type of connection in order to turn on.

Purchased a Samsung Plasma 42″ HP-T4254 from sears with extended warrenty. Got busy and called it in @ 32 days. Sears did not accept 30 warrenty (ok). Technician replace buffer. Didn’t fix now they want to try something else before replacing the TV. Can’t wait to see what I get!!

i bought a samsung tv 40″ two years ago and now the screen is just black. I took it to the shop and the guy said that the invertor board was damaged; whatever that is–the shop charged me $329.00 for the part. There should be a recalled for samsung tvs–period.

We have a Samsung PS42S5SD 42″ plasma TV less than 3 years old. It recently developed a fault where sometimes it will not switch on, other times the picture goes off leaving the sound which goes off after a short while . Apparently this is a common fault - will not buy another Samsung at £1200 a go

We have a 52 inch hctv lcd that has a crack on the right hand side. We dont know how long it has been there. I called Best buy and they said they dont warrant cracks, that usually that is because someone has thrown a remote at the screen ! Right. We are not remote throwers. Anyone else with this problem ?

i have a samsung model # hp-5054 i noticed a white line on left hand corner and a burnin smell. being into electronics i took the rear cover off and found a connector not even plugged in of the power board. unable to get any support on if this should be plugged in or not.was told by a local tv repair man that it should be plugged in.im covinced that it been like that from day one and caused the overheating damage.

I have a 42′ plasma. I have had it a couple of years. Today I was watching it and white smoke started coming out of the top of it. It was enough to set off my smoke detectors. It still worked but I turned it off and after a minute or so the smoke quit. I waited awhile and turned it back on. It worked. I was pretty surprised, but it went black after about 3 minutes.
I have two others just like it in the house. Should I take them out of my home? Will Samsung replace it?
Kevin
