Seems as if Samsung could be facing the prospect of recalling a number of models form their plasma TV range, as the company have been inundated with complaints from angry customers who claim that their plasmas have just stopped working.
The TV’s which are only in Korea are models, SPD-42S5HD, SPD-42S5HDM, SPD-42P5HD, and SPD-42P5HDM, the problem seems to be a terminal fault which turns the screen black after just one year.
Consumer group, Consumer Korea have now asked that Samsung Electronics recall this plasma TVs, as this is not down to the customer to put right. Samsung are still refusing to recall the models, but at the moment are willing to offer free repairs to the owners.
I HAVE A SAMSONG 50″ PLASMA. MODEL HPS5033 AND THE SAME THING HAPPENED TO IT. BOUGHT IT IN FLORIDA. THEY HAVE HAD IT FOR 5 WEEKS AND HAVE YET TO FIX IT. AM I ABLE TO DEMAND A REFUND? MARK FITZGERALD

We own a Samsung HPS5053 and were out at the fireworks this year. When we returned, the plasma was making crackling-type noises from the other room. When we went to check, the tv was off, making noises, and the plasma had cracks in the screen…the screen was black. We just unplugged it. Did anyone else have this kind of problem?

I own a Samsung HPS5053 that when I turn it on it fades to black then shuts down. I had this plasma for only 11 months; I am waiting to get it fixed now.

I have a Samsung 42″ plasma, it is 6 mo, 20 days old and the picture went to black. I still have the sound. But then today I turned it on a second time and it started smoking, that can’t be good.
I bought the service contract.

I too have a Samsung 42″ plasma tv. It’s less than 3 yrs old and now after few hours of viewing losses bottom half of the picture or the whole screen goes black with sound intact. This is happening on a daily basis.

We own a Samsung 50′ plasma tv and it also makes crackling-type noises when the tv is off. The new problem is the on switch is sticking and it clicks about 10 times trying to get some type of connection in order to turn on.
